11 Point Saliva Testing for Female Hormones

In the female hormonal system balance is key.  Research shows us that fluctuating levels of estradiol, progesterone and testosterone play a major role in a woman’s overall health.  This test is used when patients come to us with concerns relating to their hormonal system and helps us to identify imbalances and the root cause of their concerns that we can then address and resolve.  We use this test extensively on perimenopausal and menopausal women who have concerns of difficult to manage symptoms.  We also use this test with women who are experiencing infertility, mood disorders, pms, breast issues, endometriosis, polycystic ovarian disease (PCOS) and osteoporosis.

Unlike blood testing which is only a one point test and typically reflect both bound and unbound fractions of hormones, salivary samples represent only the free (unbound) bioavailable fraction of hormone.  Factors that effect binding globulin such as obesity and thyroid function do not influence test results with false high or low test levels and because we send away 11 samples we get a clear picture of the hormonal levels of the entire cycle.  By utilizing 11 saliva samples for analysis, the relationship and balance of these essential hormones are analyzed more precisely through time.

This test tests estradiol, progesterone and testosterone.  We can also add cortisol, DHEA and melatonin.  An analysis of estrogen, progesterone and testosterone can reveal ovulatory function and trends in hormone production.  Imbalances such as unopposed estrogen, high follicular progesterone, anovulation and luteal phase defects are easily identified.
