The Wet Sock Treatment
This treatment dates back to the beginnings of natural health and healing to a movement called the Natural Hygiene Movement in the 1800’s. It was probably used much before this first recorded date as it is a simple and very effective way to boost immunity. This treatment is gentle enough to be used on children, the elderly, and adults who suffer from immune system dysfunction, yet it is effective enough that I recommend it to anyone who is feeling like they are just coming down with a cold or a flu.
This treatment is what is called hydrotherapy. It uses water to dilate your blood vessels with the hot water and then constricting them with the cold socks and allowing them to gently dilate again as your feet warm up with the wool socks. This dilation-constriction-dilation causes a type of “pump” that allows the immunological factors in your blood to be distributed around your body thereby activating your immune system effectively.
What you need:
-1 pair of cotton socks
-1 pair of woolen socks (real wool)
-Hot foot bath
These are the step by step instructions:
(This is to be done right before bedtime)
1. Soak the feet in a hot footbath for 10 minutes (as hot as you can stand it without scalding yourself. Please be careful of hot water).
2. You may need a helper for this part. Wet one pair of cotton socks with very cold water. Wring out the cotton socks well – so they are just damp but still cold. Take your feet out of the hot foot bath and immediately put on the cold, damp socks. Yikes! It’s a shock, but important. Immediately cover your feet with a pair of dry wool socks.
3. Go to bed! This treatment can be repeated once a day for 3 days.
