A native of Cape Breton Island, Dr. Cara MacMullin ND, graduated from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia with a Bachelor of Science Advanced Major in Biology in 2001. From here, she went on to complete the Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine program at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in 2006. Cara practiced in downtown Toronto for many years before relocating to Durham Region to start a family.
Cara works in general family practice treating all conditions from acute to chronic, pediatrics to geriatrics, and well patient visits. Treatments commonly utilized include nutritional and lifestyle counseling, botanical medicine, nutritional supplements, and acupuncture. She has added experience and a special interest in thyroid disorders, hormone balance, fertility, pediatrics and pre/postnatal care for Mom and baby.
A Mother of two small children, Cara feels passionately about educating women through the hormonal and physiological changes occurring during the pre/postpartum period and beyond to optimize health and wellbeing as they transition into motherhood. Today’s environmental and social landscape can make it difficult to determine the healthiest choices for your family. Having to navigate this with her own family, Cara hopes to be able to relay this valuable information to patients and their families.
Cara believes strongly in a patient-centered and integrative approach to health and wellbeing, and encourages patients to be active participants in their individualized plans. Knowledge is essential in one’s journey to optimal health and wellness, and she will continually work to educate and empower patients to elicit change, thereby improving the quality of their lives.
Cara maintains a healthy and active lifestyle with her partner and two sons. Time with family is spent cycling, hiking, and ensuring they regularly get a health dose of nature and outdoor play.
